British Columbians deserve dignified public transit.

We are fighting to ensure that everyone in British Columbia can get where they need to go safely, reliably, accessibly, and affordably.

Why this matters.

British Columbians across the province need public transit. It can provide a safe, affordable, accessible, and convenient alternative to driving—if done right.

Many are unable to rely on transit because of glaring issues. Buses in Revelstoke are so full they’re leaving people behind. Victoria’s transit system is at risk for large service cuts. Nelson’s regional buses are full. Recent strikes in the Cowichan Valley and Whistler have left riders without transit for months.

The province and local governments have been ignoring these issues for too long. We are here to hold them accountable.
BC’s public transit has never needed our help more than now.

Our first ask.

For affordability, accessibility, and safety, British Columbia needs a connected intercity transit system.

When Greyhound left, it took the last reliable intercity travel option with it for millions of BC residents. Today, if you don’t have access to a vehicle, getting across our province is expensive, unreliable, or simply impossible.

We’re calling on the BC government to honour it’s promises and create a public intercity transit network, connecting communities from Sparwood to Prince Rupert, with affordable fares, reliable schedules, coordinated service, and comfy coach buses that gets you where you need to go.

Because whether you’re a senior who’s stopped driving, a student getting to school, a disabled
person with no accessible transportation, or a rural family travelling for medical care, you must be able to get around your own province on a ticket you can afford.

Who we are.

The Public Transit Alliance of BC is a newly formed province-wide coalition representing British Columbians who want better transit. We represent a diverse collection of organizations from across the province, including community organizations, transit riders, and labour, environment, climate, health, youth, people with disabilities, seniors, and rural advocates. These organizations have many years of experience advocating for better public transit.
